I have purchased a variation of these shorts in the past (~1 year ago) and since they are so great and so comfy, I wanted another pair. These shorts are nothing like the old pair, and I suspect it's because Next have changed their supplier.
The newer shorts have a different cut to the material making them 'tapered' or more of a skinny fit. The waistband is the same diameter, but the cuffs around the thighs are so small. There's no way these could be used for lifting weights or any actual activity unless you have unusually small and skinny legs.
I tried the next size up too, large, which I thought might fit better. They don't. The leg diameter is fine, but the waistband is so big they constantly fall down and don't feel secure even when tied with the drawstring.
The material doesn't feel as nice too. It feels more 'slippery' or plastic active-wear-esque. The original shorts felt more like jogger material (although still not cotton).
The zips feel loose and jangle around making noise while you’re walking about, which the old pair didn’t.
The only aspect that I like and were kept from the old design was the metal ferrules on the drawstring. That's great.

Quality is average as they’d be fine if that is what you wanted, but I know they can be better.
Value is average as I’m sure they’re priced relative to what the cost of manufacture is, but personally I would pay twice the amount to have shorts that were better and like the original.
